Week of September 12-16
It was so exciting seeing so many families this past Friday at the Back to School Cookout! It was a great time to talk to and get to know families and students. If you weren't at our weekly Friday Assembly, you missed our scholars participating in the Rachel's Challenge Rally. We got to experience a chain reaction of kindness being spread throughout the school (a whole lot of glittery high fives)! Each scholar is encourages to continue spreading kindness throughout the school throughout the year. If you want more information about Rachel's Challenge and what that looks like in our school, check out Mandy Coburn's Newsletter.
Reminder: Behavior Logs
So far this year, our scholars have been doing a great job at coming to class prepared and doing their job as a scholar at Cannon. As a quick reminder, behavior logs should be signed at the end of every week. Even if your scholar has nothing written in it, please sign or initial it so that we are aware that it has been seen by you!
REMINDERS: DROP-OFF & PICK-UP PROCEDURES!
KUDOS to all of our Cannon parents who pick up students at the end of the school day! 95% of our Cannon parents are consistently using their yellow sign, with the student name(s) printed legibly on the sign! Thank you so much for remembering to do this - it helps tremendously with our dismissal procedures!
As a reminder, when dropping off your child in the morning, please pull forward as far as possible, to allow the line to move as efficiently as possible. All students should be ready to exit vehicles as quickly as possible. When students arrive and are eating in the car, still packing items in their backpacks, or saying extended farewells to parents, it prevents the car line from moving as quickly as possible. Thanks for your continued help in this area!
Finally, please remember that cell phone use when in a school zone is prohibited and subject to a fine, if stopped by a police officer. We have seen some of our Cannon parents being stopped and ticketed for using their cell phones as they enter and leave the drop-off/pick-up lane, so please remember this important safety law.
Superfoodie Thursdays!
GCISD Nutrition Services is excited to introduce Superfoodie Thursdays this year at our elementary and middle school campuses! Superfoodie Thursdays is all about introducing students to different types of “super-foods.” On a select Thursday each month, a new superfood will be featured at lunch. There will also be an educational display for the students & samples of the superfood item. Our goal is to educate our students on the importance of making healthy choices each and every day at home and while at school.
This month’s super food is blueberries and will be featured on 9/15.
Make sure you and your scholar are aware of the new food that is being introduced in the cafeteria. Talk with your scholar about the food and any allergies they may have.
