Science Update: Field Trips and Soil

Last week was a busy week in science. We wrapped up our first unit on Matter with an exciting field trip to the city of Grapevine, Water Treatment Plant. After making our own personal water filters in class, it was great to be able to make connections to how our own drinking water is cleaned every day. Scholars got the opportunity to walk through and see the entire process from start to finish!

After our morning learning about water, we took part in a virtual field trip that was hosted by Lockheed Martin. In honor of National Space Week, last week, Lockheed Martin took the scholars all across the country on a virtual tour of what they are taking part in on different missions to space. If you want to see what your scholars did, check out the Generation Beyond Virtual Field Trip

This week we started our unit on soil. We began by taking a look outside and seeing the different soils that could be found in the garden and on the playground. Scholars made a tree map and a pic collage to show what they knew about soil before we even started. Later in the week, we explored the different properties of soil such as texture, color, grain size and ability to retain water.
