Comparing and Rounding Numbers that are Large

This week your scholar began to compare and order Numbers that were much larger than they were used to.  As a Third Grader your scholar was only responsible for comparing numbers up to the Thousands which can be done quickly.  As a Fourth Grader when the numbers become much longer and span all the way up to the Billions, your scholar is learning to be more cautious when comparing the numbers.  During class we spent time writing each number one above the other with place values matching in what we called the "Stack it Up" method.  We also continued rounding larger numbers.  This  is mostly only challenging when the place value that is being rounded to is within the number.  For example if I have a number in the Billions and I want to round it to the nearest ten thousands place, some scholars will stumble.  Practicing the skill is the best way to improve.
